    kelsey jefferies

Hi! My name is Kelsey Jefferies, and I am currently a sophomore here at James Madison University. For the past ten years I have lived and grown up in Warrenton, Virginia-a small, rural area just outside of Northern Virginia. Although most people from "nova" are not particularly familiar with Fauquier County, I consider myself just as much as a Northern Virginian as anyone with a 703 area code...it just takes me twenty minutes to get to the nearest trace of civilization compared to the twenty seconds it would take in Fairfax to find a Starbucks. However, it is not to be confused that I have any complaints. You can't see the stars there like you can from my back porch.

Living in the country, it is probably not surprising to hear that I live on a small farm with a barn and a few horses. While most kids rode their bike up and down the driveway, I was lucky enough to ride my horses around my own backyard! Riding has always been a passion of mine, and in high school I often competed. There were many instances where my mother picked me up in the car pool line with our Chevy suburban towing the horse trailer, taking me to practice right after school. This would typically cause quite the commotion in a more developed, suburban setting, but in Warrenton, not so much.

In addition to my passion for riding, I absolutely love photography, which is what led me to SMAD. I am most interested in corporate communication because it is well known for preparing students to utilize a variety of skills in different departments and disciplines within the media industry. Working in a field that involves interaction with customer, public, corporate, and government communication in the media industry is where I see my future career taking place. This is also why I chose to minor in Human Resources, because it will give me additional skills to learning how to contribute to the function of an organization as a whole.
